UK is well prepared for any adverse wintry weather. "I thought that Backfire might be interested to learn that during an evening journey along the A14/M11 from the M1/M6 junction as far as Stansted Airport in midSeptember, I encountered no fewer than 10 gritter lorries, amber beacons flashing and doing everything except spreading grit. What were they doing and why were they all doing it at 9-10pin that night?
