During his career he served the East Surrey Traction Co., the Autocar Co., and the London General Omnibus Co., Ltd. With the formation of the Board, he became rolling-stock engineer (country

services). In 1935 he was appointed joint rolling-stock engineer, subsequently becoming rolling-stock engineer (buses and coaches).

MR. R. L. ALLEN, having completed 20 years' service with the Firestone Tyre and Rubber Co., Ltd., has been presented with a gold watch by the chairman and managing director, MR. W. E. DUCK.

MR, GUY N. Varlsrr-raRT has been elected chairman of the board of Vauxhall Motors, Ltd., of which he has been a director since 1938. Aibrother of Lord Vansittart, he has been in the motor industry for 20 years and has extensive knowledge of export markets and overseas conditions.

MR. J. H. CRaccs, who has been appointed general manager of Widnes Corporation's transport department, started his career at the age of 16 with the Venture Bus Co., Co. Durham. In 1944 he qualified with honours as A.M.Inst.T. He joined Widnes Corporation 18 months ago as traffic superintendent.

MR. DAVID R. STEERS is travelling to Montevideo, having been appointed senior general assistant in Uruguay to the Dunlop concern. He was born and lived in that country until 1939. During the war he served in the 13th ,Lancers, Indian Army. He joined 'Dunlop after the war and was trained at Fort Dunlop.

MR. LESLIE WALTON, chairman of Vauxhall Motors, Ltd., has retired after 40 years' service on the board. He joined the company as joint managing director in 1907 when it was , formed to take over the motor activities of the Vauxhall and West Hydraulic Engineering Co., Ltd., of Luton. In 1914, he alao became chairman, and when the company joined the General Motors Corporation in 1925 he continued in both capacities.
