• A Stockport lorry driver facing civil claims from angling clubs and others totalling 217,500 after thousands of fisl died as a result of river pollution when 1,000 litres of car wash liquid detergent fell from his vehicle.

This was revealed at Mold magistrates' court when the driver, Anthony Harding, of Derby Road, Stockport, admitted two charges of causing pollution and was finel 2100.

David Bathers, prosecuting for the Welsh Water Authority, said the detergent fell off Harding's lorry at the premises of Laminex International.

It worked its way into the River Alyn, killing nearly 6,00 fish worth 24,500.
