THE arguments for the Port of Southampton as the ideal and obvious site for future UK container berth development are set out in a booklet published by the British Transport Docks Board. Much of the basic infrastructure already exists, explains the booklet, to cope with a planned ultimate capacity totalling one million containers a year.
