COR the information of Colonel .I.Nathan, Captain Hudson said the recommendations, which the interdepartmental committee on cabs and private-hire vehicles had made in their interim report, were at present receiving the consideration of the Home Secretary and no announcement could yet be made as to anyaction the Government might take, in the matter.

Mr. B. Smith referred to the number of months Members had been kept waiting for the Committee to be set up, and asked that the Home Secretary should be apprised of the need of expediting decision. Captain Hudson said there had been no avoidable delay.

WEST HIGHLAND ROAD SCHEME REJECTED.

TCa proposal for a 100 per cent. grant towards constructing a Highland sea-board road linking Mallaig and Kyle of Lochalsh, etc., Captain Hudson said its cost would be out of all proportion to its usefulness.

A LOWER SPEED LIMIT NOT FAVOURED.

SQ INCE the introduction of a 25 limit in Providence, Rhode Island, U.S.A., said Mr. Leach, there had been a remarkable drop in the fatality rate. Would the Minister consider taking -similar measures in this country?

Captain Hudson replied that he did not think a reduction of the 30 m.p.h. limit in this country to 25 m.p.h. would have similar results to those to which reference had been made,
