Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The Edibrac equipment that enables .a vehicle to load or off-load its own container (CM December 6) was launched on the UK market this week under the name of the Sidelifta. In addition to handling ISO containers it can deal with flats, tanks, refuse containers, stacked bricks and similar items.

Each Sidelifta consists of two crane-form units, one mounted at the front and one at the rear of the chassis frame. They are located according to loading needs. Before they come into operation hydraulic stabilizers are extended to the ground. Hook loads of 8 and 13 tons {giving a total capacity of 16 and 26 tons) are being offered immediately, with 23 ton units available later this year. The hydraulic equip ment is operated from a duplex pump driven from the vehicle gearbox. The fittings are suitable for mounting on rigid or articulated chassis and on drawbar trailers. Operation is by a remote control line from outside the vehicle. For ISO containers twist-lock outriggers are fitted on the skeletal frame.

The price of the basic unit is under £3,000, there being extra charges for ancillary fittings. Without accessories the weight is approximately "2 tons. The Sidelifta is manufactured by Edibrac, Ashton Road, Bredbury, Stockport, under licence from the Klaus organization of Germany. Deliveries are due to commence in 10 weeks.
