ik HAULAGE contractor who, it was PA said, installed a special tank in his barn so that he could use duty-free oil, had his five lorries impounded by the Customs and Excise authorities and had to buy them back for £5,000.
This was stated at Derby county magistrates' court last week when Ernest Cope, of Stanley, Derbys, was fined a total of £1,150 after pleading guilty to 23 charges involving the evasion of 0,500 in duty on fuel oil.
