Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ALTHOUGH it is hardly credible, sand seems to be one of the best preservatives for vehicles. I learn from The Daily Telegraph that a 30cwt Chevrolet abandoned in the desert in Egypt early in 1941 was dug up "in near perfect condition" about 40 years later and has been brought to Britain.

Maj-Gen David Loyd Owen, who at one time commanded the Long Range Desert Group, which used the vehicle, is reported to be most impressed with it.
