NATIONAL Bus Company subsidiary Lincolnshire Road Car Company has a new chief engineer. He is Brian Harper, Midland Red's assistant engineer (works).

He succeeds Frank Carter who is joining Northern General as chief engineer. Mr Harper began his apprentice ship with Leyland Motors in 1947, and -was appointed area engineer (East) for Mildand Red in 1974.

Retiring after 40 years' service with ERF is Laurence Cooke, engineering departments systems supervisor. Mr Cooke joined ERF in 1939 as a draughtsman and was involved in designing the San dbach factory. In 1960 he took over the specification department, preparing vehicle build sheets and allocation of components for vehicles before production.

Richard Iles has moved to Nairobi to become deputy general manager for British Electric Traction subsidiary East African Road Services. He was previously with BET's consultancy company, Transport Management Services where he was a project manager latterly in Bangkok.

Obituary

We record with regret the death of George Skelton, aged 65, from a heart attack.

He retired in 1978 as chairman of Pickfords, a company he joined in 1929. After entering branch management in the 1930's he rose to become general manager of the old Pickfords, and subsequently managing director of Pickfords Removal and Travel.
