• First exhibited at the National Truck and Tanker Convention in Washington in May this year, a new range of Drum compressor/vacuum road tanker pumps will make its European debut at the Frankfurt Show which opens on September 13. Produced by The Drum Engineering Co Ltd, Park Gate, Church Bank, Bradford BD1 5BS, the pumps will be found in the stand of the Alfons Haar company of Hamburg, Drum distributor in West Germany.

Drum Engineering is a member of the Syltone Bradford-based group of companies which also produces power-take-off equipment.

Known as the Gemini 130, the basic unit is equipped with a 3 to 1 step-up gearbox and has a compressor output of 70 cu ft/min at pressures up to 45 psi. Conversion to continuous vacuum operation up to 28in. of mercury is provided by a reverse-flow valve. An oil-free version of the unit is also available, and in this form is known as the Europa 130. It is designed to obviate contamination of the cargo and is the type employed by the Milk Marketing Board.

Cargoes for which the unit is suitable include all grades of oil in addition to a variety of acids and solvents, glucose, molasses, printing inks and so on together with the majority of powders. Special pumps are available for more corrosive chemicals, and units of bigger and smaller capacity are included in the standard range.

While the unit is normally driven from a pto, it can be supplied with hydrostatic or electric drive, the latter form being fitted to pumps used by the MMB.
