MAN'S EAGERLY AWAITED replacement to its long-serving L2000 middleweight is set to debut at the Birmingham truck show next April.

According to MAN/ERF UK's chairman Fred Van Putten. the TGL is due to be officially launched a week after the NEC show. But he admits: "I can't ignore it, considering how big the UK market is." So show visitors can expect a sneak preview of the TGL, which will initially be launched at 7.5.8.0 and 12.0 tonnes with four and six-cylinder Euro-3 engines, followed by Euro-4 versions soon after.

MAN is already predicting big things for the TGL, which is said to have a highly competitive kerbweight of 3,120kg at 7.5 tonnes: some 100kg less than the current L2000 chassis. It will be offered with the latest AS-Uonic light truck automatic transmissions.

MAN/ERF hopes to sell 1,800 TGL.s in the UK by the end of 2006, leading to leadership of the light truck market within three years of the launch.

• MAN's lawsuit against DaimlerChryster over the sale of ERF by DC subsidiary Western Star will he heard in London, starting on 15 January 2006. After the purchase MAN discovered a major hole in ERFs accounts, including an overstatement of residual vehicle assets. It has attempted to get recompense from DaimlerChrysler following DC's purchase of Western Star.

MAN is thought to be daiming up to £300m from DC/Western Star.
