Increased Activity by Several Important Operators in the Ccunty of Broad Acres.

TERE seems to be no end to the new developments in the Yorkshire passenger-transport world. New through services are being put into operation, new fleets are being bought and another important feature is the large number of amalgamations.

One of the largest Yorkshire concerns, the West Yorkshire Road Car Co., Ltd., the head offices of which are located at Harrogate, has during this year acquired several bus businesses, including an important York suburban service, the Cosy Car Service, which was the pioneer service between York, Haxby and Wigginton. A number of vehicles is embraced in the deal, including several Albions. The company, The Commercial Motor understands, has also taken over the Ebor Services, operating extensively between York, Sheriff Hutton, Melton, etc. These amalgamations have brought the company's fleet to over 600 vehicles. In the York area the present garage accommodation in Fawcett Street is inadequate, and the company is now planning a new depot for York.

Readers will remember an appeal by Mr. George Galley at Hull in May. As a result of this Mr. Galley has extended his Newcastle-York express service to Hull. Through buses run twice daily in each direction, with an extra coach each way between York and Newcastle.

Messrs. Everingham Brothers, who operate extensively in the Pocklington (East Yorks) area, have, for the summer season, put a new through service into operation between York and Bridlington, via Pocklington, Warter and Driffield. A two-hourly service is operated on this route with additional buses between York and Pocklington. A.E.C. Regals are used on the through service.

A powerful York company, the York Pullman Bus Co., under the management of Mr. H. Foxton, operates a fleet of about a dozen vehicles. The company is living up to its name by operating as service buses extremely luxurious vehicles. The last delivery, a Dennis 20-seater, is equipped with side curtains, separate switches for each light, operated from the seats, deep seats with specially long and Padded backs and a roof finished with special white panelling. This concern's buses operate on routes from York to Murton, Stamford Bridge, Helperby, Linton and Easingwold, via Able, and on Saturdays to Aldwark and Easingwold direct. The district served is purely sigricultural and the traffic is chiefly for shopping, The " United " has taken delivery in the Yorkshire area of a fleet of Leyland Tiger all-weather coaches, recently described by Phe Commercial Motor.

These operate between Harrogate and Scarborough, via Thirsk and Pickering, and on the London services. The popularity of the Sunderland-Middlesbrough -London route may be gauged by the fact that as many as six buses are required to run at one time. • The company has also started another new service from Prialton and Hovingham to Cluing, and is operating services several times daily between Whitby and Grosmout and Goathland, in the heart of -the moors. The Middlesbrough, Whitby and Scarborough coast service is running daily every hour, whilst six buses per day are operating between Middlesbrough and Whitby by way of the moors.

It is interesting to note that a doublesaloon Maudslay coach is being used by the Cestrian Service between Sunderland and London. This must be one of the first double-deck vehicles to be used on a service over ,250 miles in length. Passengers speak very highly of travel on the top deck—the absence of engine fumes and heat and the beautiful view of the country often being emphasized. East Yorkshire Motor Services, Ltd., is again operating its "Northern Express" service from Hull to Newcastle.
