A 38-TONNE gcw tractive unit with a kerb weight of under five tons is possible, says Hank Kiefer of Sand bach Engineering.
The S104 model at the Motor Show, complete with sleeper cab, Varashield wind deflector, fifth wheel and five gallons of fuel, weighs 5,345kg (5ton 5cwt).
However, Mr Kiefer argues that within the Foden range, it is possible to build a heavy duty 186kW (250bhp) 38-tonne gew tractive unit that before fitting the fifth wheel and with five gallons of fuel on-board would weigh under 5,080kg (Stan).
