'THE Scottish Omnibuses Group fleet replacement programme for 1963 will involve the expenditure of £ the same figure as last year, which constituted a record.

Of the 304 vehicles involved, 173 are to be double-deckers. A total of 98 of these are to be Bristol Lodekkas, equally divided between 60and 70-seater models. Albion Lowlander chassis will be the basis for the remaining 75 double-deckers and these will have bodywork seating 71 or -72 passengers. The Western S.M.T. company is to receive 37 Lowlanders and 27 Lodekka 70-seaters, Central S.M.T. is to have 21 Lodekkas (11 70-seaters and 10 60-seaters) and 20 Lowlanders, whilst Alexander (Fife) and Scottish Omnibuses are to place 20 and 18 Lodekka 60-seaters in service respectively.

Among single-deckers the emphasis continues to be on 41-seater underfloorengined models measuring approximately 30 ft. long, there being 66 A.E.C. Reliances and 21 Leyland Tiger Cubs in this class on order. The Reliances are divided between Scottish Omnibuses (25), Alexander (Northern) (22), Alexander (Fife) (PI) and Alexander (Midland) (5). The Tiger Cubs are for Alexander (Midland).

The 36-ft.-long single-decker appears for the first time in the Scottish Bus replacement programme, there being 21 Leyland Leopards for Western S.M.T. and • 12 Reliances for Scottish Omnibuses of this length. Of these, 13 and 6, respectively, are to be 38-seaters for the coach Services to London, and the remainder 49-seater dual-purpose coaches. At the other end of the scale six Bedford VAS 29-seaters are on order for the Alexander (Midland) fleet, and five Bedford SB 41-seaters are for Central S.M.T.
