a new mayor last week, Brighton Town Council decided to combine the highways and transport committees into one, to co-ordinate future highway and public transport planning. Eight members from the highways committee and six from the transport committee will form the new joint committee.
The chairman will be elected at the next council meeting on June 2 and his appointment will run for five years instead of the four years previously served by committee chairman. Also for the first time, a deputy chairman will be elected. It is expected that the chairman and his deputy will come from the highways and transport committees respectively in the first place.
