500 trucks and 280 trailers to Volvo subsidiary Ailsa Truck Finance in a 222 million lease-back deal, as predicted by Commercial Motor (5-11 May). Ailsa plans to replace the existing fleet within five years.

Barlow Handling also won a 25 million contract to supply the brewery with 300 Hyster lift-trucks. These will be supplied to 30 separate sites and will include Hyster 2.5-, 3.0and 4.0-tonne diesel and LPG models and Hyster 1.25-, 1.75and 2.50-tonne electric-powered trucks.

Grand Metropolitan Brewing group director, Roger Young, says the deal ("Project Headlight") was the result of a thorough review into the company's fleet operations. The new contracts with Barlow Handling and Ailsa Truck Finance involve Grand Metropolitan companies, Watney Truman, Samuel Webster and Wilsons, Ushers, Mann and Norwich Brewery, Phoenix Brewery and Brewliners.
