Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

YOUR reviewer (June 16) of "On Guard", the IRTE guide to side guards and underrun requirements, said the booklet was published too late to give consideration to webbing side guards. Not so.

In the guide's explanation of the law, it says, referring to regulations 46 d(5), "this allows. .... even plain panels .... so long as they are thick enough not to be floppy. It seems to rule out webbing".

The law says the "outermost surface of a side guard shall be.

essentially rigid". P. J. EDMONDS Technical Information & Publications The institute of Road Transport Engineers
