Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

NEITHER Land Rover nor Perkins will confirm or deny that there is any substance to the speculation which began last week that the Iceberg project, a joint development of a diesel version of Rover's vee eight engine, is about to be cancelled.

A Perkins spokesman said a report in the Financial Times was "pure speculation". Land Rover had no statement to make and its spokesman did not expect one to be issued soon.

The agreement between the two companies was signed in 1981, and although Land Rover has never confirmed it, production was expected to begin at the end of last year.

It was intended that the Iceberg diesel would be used in Land Rover and Range Rover models as well as Rover cars.

The current Rover diesel engine is a turbocharged, Italianbuilt unit from VM.
