LAST WEEK'S final of the Road Transport Industry Training Board organised National Junior Mechanics Competition (CM, June 23) was won by a team from Guildford County College of Technology. Second place, decided by a tie-break based on the number of "pass" responses to questions, went to a team from Martins of Burnley.

The Guildford team was presented with its winner's trophy, the Motor Agents' Association silver salver, by Peter Morrison, Minister of State for Employment. The competition began in 1972 when it was called the National Vehicle Trades Apprentice Competition. This year the rules were changed to allow trainees who were not employed, those on Youth Training Scheme programmes, to enter.

The regional rounds produced ten teams, each consisting of four members with one reserve, to contest the final.
