• In order to improve its excursions and tours network, Wallace Arnold Tours Ltd, of Leeds, applied to the North Western Traffic Commissioners in Manchester on Wednesday to vary the conditions of five licences and to introduce one new excursion and tours service and two new express carriage services.

The eight applications received a total of 102 objections from Ribble Motor Services Ltd, Lancashire United Transport, North Western Road Car Co Ltd, Northern General Transport Co Ltd, United Automobile Services Ltd, Happiway Tours (Manchester) Ltd, Stanley Spencer Tours (Manchester) Ltd, Smiths Tours (Wigan) Ltd, West Yorkshire Car Co Ltd, East Kent Road Car Co Ltd, Batty Holt Touring Services Ltd, Pleasureways (1955) Ltd, Shearings Holidays Ltd, Hebble Motor Services Ltd, Associated Motorways, W. Robinson and Sons (Great Harwood) Ltd, Florence Motors Ltd, Yelloway Motor Services Ltd, Southdown Motor Services Ltd, Grey-Green Coaches Ltd and Hicks Coaches Ltd.

Representing Wallace Arnold, Sir Frank Marshall said the company wanted to use the new M62 link between Yorkshire and Lancashire, not to gain passengers but to simplify operations and make economies. The M62 link was already used by a number of the objectors.
