In each case the number of the latest Gazette of Notices and Proceedings to be received is mentioned in brackets.

Dealing with the Gazettes of Notices and Proceedings that have been received during the week, the Northern Scotland Commissioners announce in Gazette No. 14 that in future a shorthand note will be taken of the proceedings at public sittings and that copies of the transcript or a part of it may be obtained on payment. Notification should be sent to the Clerk to the Commissioners before the sitting commences. This gazette announces a number of stage-carriage licences granted to W. Alexander and Sons, Ltd., and others.

According to Gazette No. 15, the Southern Scotland Commissioners have somewhat simplified the matter of licence conditions by grouping them, eight schedules being included in what in future will be referred to as the Commissioners' standard conditions. Apart from these, separate stage-carriage conditions for the towns of Edinburgh, Kilmarnock and Stranraer are listed.

The Gazette includes a number of stage-carriage licences granted to the Greenock Motor Services Co. and others. It is noted in this gazette that Thomas Cook and Sons, Ltd., has withdrawn its application for an express Chester-Scotland-London service.

Amongst the interesting express-carriage applications to be heard by these Commissioners is that put in by W. Scott and Co., for the Edinburgh-London route. It is objected to by the

two railway companies concerned, and the hearing is fixed for July 10th-1.1th.

Stage-carriage applications by United Automobile Services, Ltd., will occupy much of the Yorkshire Commissioners' time at the sitting commencing at Scarborough on July 7th, when, also, several long-distance services will be considered, including that company's Newcastle

London line. No decisions are announced in Gazette No. 11.

Gazette No. 13, of the West Midlands Area, enumerates but few objections to the many applications to be heard at the Hereford sitting. This gazette announces a large number of stage-carriage licences granted to the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co., Ltd., as well as 12 licences for express services connecting the Midlands with Llandudno, Weston-super-Mare, etc.

A Bradford-London Service Opposed.

A list of objections appears against the application by B. and E. Motor Services, Doncaster, for backing of an express-service licence for the BradfordLondon route which is up for hearing by the East Midland Commissioners on July 7th, on which date also the application of the Express Safety Coach Co., Ltd., London, for the London-Cleethorpes route is to be heard. Gazette No. 15 contains no decisions regarding long-period licences.

Messrs. Holiday and Bangs's application for an express-service licence for the London-King's Lynn route will be objected to by the L,N.E.R. Co. and United Autemobile Services, Ltd., when it is heard by the Eastern Area Commissioners at King's Lynn. Gazette No. 14 lists many licence grants.

The Neath and Bridgend sittings of the South Wales Commissioners will not be characterized by any very strong objections to applications. Gazette No. 11 announces only a few stage-carriage licences as having been granted, and reports the withdrawal by South Wales Transport Co., Ltd., of two of its applications in respect of local services.

Amongst the forthcoming Western Area applications is one made by Mr. N. D. Reyne for the Gloucester-London route, and objected to by the Bristol Tramways and Carriage Co., Ltd.

At the ,Salisbury sitting of the Southern Area Commissioners, the Southern Railway Co. is objecting to a number of applications in respect of excursions and tours, whiLst the G.W.R. Co. is down as an objector to applications by Red and White Services, Ltd., in respect of express-carriage routes between Swansea and London and between Treherbert and Bournemouth.

Gazette No. 14 contains a large number of licences granted, including several express-service licences applied for by South Midland Motor Services, Ltd., for London-Worcester, Portsmouth-Oxford, London-Bournemouth and other routes. Licences are granted to the Groat Western Express Co., Ltd., in respect of its London-S. Wales services, on the condition that passengers may only be picked up in the Southern Area for destinations outside that area.

The North Western Road Car Co., Ltd., receives a licence for its express service between Manchester and London and the Scottish Motor Traction Co., Ltd., for 'tits London-Edinburgh line. Viking Motor Coaches,i,Thame, are refused a licence for a stage-carriage service between London and Oxford, whilst the city of Oxford Mott'r Services, Ltd., is not permitted to run a stage-carriage service between Wallingford and Didcott, via Brightwell. .

The South Eastern Commissioners' sitting at Folkestone, commencing July 8th, will be mainly occupied by the hearing of applications for excursions and tours. It is noticed, however, that the Southern Railway Co. at this sitting will object to Mr. G. E. A. Fox's express-carriage application for the London-Ramsgate route. The same railway company is objecting to a large number ef the applications for tours.

It is announced in Gazette No. 15 of this area that a shorthand note will be taken of the proceedings at the public sittings and copies of the transcript will be supplied on payment. Those wishing copies should apply beforehand.

Many Metropolitan Area , Objections.

There are plenty of objections listed in Gazette No. 15 of the Metropolitan Commissioners; in respect of excursion applications to be heard , on July 6th and following days. Premier Coaches and Garage, Ltd., is applying for an express service between London and Sheffield, and has to face both the rail ways interested in this route. The applications of Blue Belle Motors, Ltd., Messrs. Thorne Brothers, Messrs. Julius and Lockwood, Messrs. H. J. Phillips and Sans, and others in respect of services connecting London with the coast are objected to by most of. the railway companies. These are up for hearing on July 9th and July 10th.

A number of licences granted is listed and, several refusals are announced. London Coastal Coaches, Ltd., is not permitted a licence for a group of excur

sions and tours from the Lupus Street station ; Shaw and Duval, Ltd., is refused' its express-carriage licence between Kingston and Clacton-on-Sea, and the National Omnibus and Transport Co,' Ltd., is refused a backing for a Watford-Margate service.
