Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

GORDON THOMSON, a traffic operator with Scotway Haulage Ltd, has won the Commercial Motor prize in the RSA road transport examinations for 1975. Mr Thomson, who is 28, was the candidate who, employed by a hire-and-reward company, obtained the highest aggregate of marks in Road Transport Operation (Goods) Papers I and II. He was a candidate of the Central College of Commerce, Glasgow.

Mr Thomson also won the Road Haulage Association prize for the highest marks in any five Goods Transport papers.

Another winner of two prizes was Martin Sutton a costing operative with Trent Motor Traction at Derby—a candidate of Clarendon College, Nottingham. He won the National Bus Company prize for the highest aggregate in any five papers by a passenger transport employee and the Motor Transport prize for the candidate obtaining the highest marks in five papers.

The Herbert Crow prize don ated by the Wor±: ,tul 1pany of Carmen for the best five Goods papers was won by Michael Coxwell, a sergeant in the Army.

Two other Clarendon College candidates obtained prizes. Andrew Sear, assistant transport manager of Ellis and Everard (Chemicals) Ltd, won the Freight Transport Association prize for the best goods transport papers by an own-account employee, while Anthony Booth, a Nottingham City transport bus driver, won the APPTO Award for the highest aggregate marks in five papers including Passenger Transport Operation, being an employee of an APPTO member.

The APPTO Danum Award went to Stephen Whittle, clerical assistant with Preston Transport Department and a candidate from St John's College, Manchester.

Meanwhile, on the passenger front one of Black and White's best known drivers, Fred Duxbury, retired recent ly. He joined the company as a booking clerk in 1962 but has spent the past 10 years on the company's tours.

Also retiring from Black and White recently was Bob Sellars, traffic detailer. Both men were presented with retirement presents by the general manager of National Travel (South West), Kenneth Wellman.

And in East Yorkshire Peter Atkinson, 33, becomes assistant traffic manager of East Yorkshire Motor Services. Mr Atkinson joined the company in 1962 as a traffic assistant.

G. E. Hutchinson, 32, has been appointed director of public transportation, Grampian Regional Council, in succession to T. Marsden who is joining the Scottish Bus Group.

Mr Hutchinson began his career in 1962 with Venture Transport Co (Newcastle) Ltd, and in 1965 he was appointed as assistant to the general manager.

Renault Ltd director, Ronald Spears becomes managing director of Saviem (UK) Ltd. A London board meef Tng confirmed the appointments of Jean Jacquet as commercial director of Saviem and Rudolphe Lambert as managing director of Renault Ltd.

Other appointments included Rudolphe Messeguer as export director of Saviem; Guy Castillo as Saviem export director and Colin Tickner as chairman of Nickerson Commercial Vehicles, the former concessionaire for Saviem.
