Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Visitors to next month's Brewery Transport Advisory Committee (BTAC) fuel trials, held on September 13 and 14 at the Motor Industry Research Association test track, will have a sneak preview of two new tractive units shortly to become available in the UK.

The most interesting is the 38-tonne GCW Ford Cargo 3828 tractive unit which is powered by a charge-cooled Cummins LTA10 290 engine rated at 209kW (280hp) installed.

The 4x2 3828 Cargo is due to be launched in the UK at the Motor Show in October, with production starting up at the Langley Cargo plant soon afterwards.

Up until now, this most powerful version of the Cargo has only been glimpsed at Iveco Ford dealer meetings. However, it has now gained full UK type approval and a model will be entered in the BTAC trials by a brewing company which will he evaluating it during the coming months.

The 3828's driveline is vir

tually the same as the lowerpowered 179kW(240hp) 3224 Cargo except for a heavy duty Rockwell U180E rear axle.

The second new face at the BTAC trials will be a 3.2m wheelbase Volvo FL10. Thi extra short wheelbase version — the previous shortest was the 3.4m model — can now be built to special order by Volvo and follows requests from a number of large own account fleets.

Over 42 entries have now been received for the BTAC trials. Events covering 7.5tonners, tankers and the open classes will be held on the 13th, while the 16-38 tonne classes will be held on the 14th. Visitors can, however, see the unique BTAC

prepared Cummins-powered Volvo tractive unit (CM August 9) running on both days.
