Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

PRODUCTION and export figures for March are particularly encouraging. They show a substantial increase over those for the comparable

period of 1953. During the month, 24.330 units were produced, the weekly average being 4,886 In 1953, the respective figures were 20.222 and 4.044.

The total production for the first quarter of the year, at 64,713 units, was 3,698 higher than in the first quarter of last year.

Exports are equally promising. In March this year 11,086 units, valued at £6,054.601, were shipped, compared with 9,242 units (L5,013,816) in March. 1953.

For the first three months of the year. 32.771 units (L18,324,361) were exported, as against 26,423 units (L15,568,805) in the corresponding period last year.

• In reviewing these favourable returns. the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders say that apart from the higher level of trade with Australia and New Zealand, the quarter's export figures show that trade with the Irish Republic more than trebled, with a total of just over 2,000 units shipped. Both Belgium and Holland also increased their purchases by several hundred units.
