In pursuance of the New Zealand Government's policy to co-ordinate rail and road transport, Mr. R. Semple, Minister of Transport, last week announced arrangements for the Govern-. merit's acquisition of all road goods services competing with the railways over long distances. He said that machinery had been devised for compensating the road companies.
Mr. Semple stated that it was clear c22 that the road and rail services, under a single ownership, could be co-ordinated and developed so as to allow each to function with maximum usefulness.
