Peter Hobbs and John Mills, the British drivers sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in a Bulgarian jail for heroin smuggling, have been pardoned.
They are due to arrive home this weekâthe Foreign Office has confirmed that the men are being transferred to a transit camp before being flown to Britain.
The pair, who have always maintained their innocence, spent four years jailed in terrible conditions. Driver Mills had been hired by RMB International of Rainham. Essex to take vehicle parts to Istanbul for a Bulgarian firm called Anatolin Shipping and Transport. His friend Peter Hobbs had accompanied him to navigate.
Stephen Jakobi of Fair Trials Abroad is delighted by their release. He says that Steve Bryant is now the last of the "thorny chestnut" cases outside the EU. Bryant is in a Moroccan jail on drugs charges.
