Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Food distribution specialist A to Z had driver safety in its mind when it asked Solomon Commercials to add side steps to four lveco 13-tonne rigid reefers it was about to body.

With the battery normally located directly below the optimum position for the side door, it left only a 150mm-deep space for the step, between the battery box and the side guard.

The Chelmsford-based distributor did not want the battery moved and it also wanted access for servicing.

The matter was resolved with Solomon technician Ian Orrnerod's three-tier folding steps that open out in two stages. The Stair set is hot-dip galvanised to maintain a clean, rust-free appearance.

To safely access the load through the side door, the two bottom steps unclip and hinge downward while the top step slides out into position. Push it back under the body floor and there is room to extract the battery.

When the stairs are not needed they can be folded flush to the side guard and clipped into place.

As a further safety measure Solomon has linked a safety device to the vehicle ignition to prevent the driver moving off with the steps down.
