Essex-based Access Freight was astounded when it discovered thieves had targeted its 16-year-old Mercedes-Benz 1632 worth only 25,000.

The Burgundy-painted truck, registration SK 1 N 63IR, went missing from a lorry park in West Hendon, London. The Chelmsford-based owner says thieves could have been attracted to the unliveried vehicle because of its £20,000 load of light bulbs, and the 24,500 refurbishment, including a respray and the re-conditioning of the engine, carried out about six weeks before it was stolen.

Police have since found the 12.5m Van Hool trailer, which had been unhitched from the unit and left empty on a layby on the Al 3 near Dagenham, Essex.

commodore Kitchens is having to subcontract out an average 2300-worth of work a week of haulage after one of its two trucks was stolen from its premises in Grays, Essex on 17 August.

It holds out little hope of recovering the Mercedes-Benz 814, which was stolen from its locked yard overnight, with an £8,000 load of cupboards and cookers. The truck, registration E325 FEV, was white and unliveried.

The theft came at a particularly awkward time, because Commodore Kitchens' other truck is off the road after being involved in an accident. It is therefore having to pay for the hire of a van as well.

Thieves took a great risk of being spotted when they stole Creggan Transport's Scania 142 from a busy industrial estate at Harlow in Essex on the afternoon of 11 August.

The blue and white liveried reefer, which belongs to Creggan in Crossmaglen, County Down, went between 15:30hrs and 19:00hrs. It was loaded with £150,000 worth of beef and has the words Creggan Transport Ireland down its side.

Thieves broke the offside window of the 38-tonner, before making off with the truck, registration JIB 2124, and its 12m box trailer.
