Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE take-over of Gliderway Coaches, Ltd., by the McLaughlin family, proprietors of Stockland Garage, Ltd., was the Stockland empire's biggest acquisition to date," said Mr. W. P. James, chairman, West Midland Traffic Commissioners, at Birmingham, last week.

Mr. J. Else for the new Gliderway company, was applying for a series of licences formerly held by the old one. He explained that Mr. Harry Morris, the previous managing director, had retired and arranged for the sale of the name, goodwill and vehicles to the new concern, controlled by the McLaughlin family. The old company was now known as II Morris Investments, Ltd.

" While it is a matter of regret that Mr. Morris, a figure who has been one of the great names in the transport industry, is retiring from the scene, it is satisfactory to know that people of substance and likely to carry on his traditions, are taking over his business," said Mr. Else.

Mr. James, after commenting on the latest acquisition of the Stockland " empire," added: " I am sorry that Mr. Morris is not here today. He built up a A28 business which has provided recreational facilities for many people in the West Midland Area." • Mr. G. B. Griffiths, for the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co., Ltd., "one of Mr. Morris's biggest competitors." said: The service which Mr. Morris provided always commanded our respect and could not possibly have been bettered."

The licences were formally granted.
