THE aim of Associated Road Trans'. port Contractors was to give a complete network of services throughout the country, said the chairman, Mr. M. W. Harris, at the annual meeting last week.

AMERICAN BRAKES AND TRANSMISSIONS

AN American book. "Automotive Brakes and Power Transmission Systems," by Frazer and Bedell, has been published by the Technical Press, Ltd., Lawrence Street, London, S.W.3, at E2 18s. Within its 266 pages the authors deal with all the current American vehicle brakes and transmission layouts, including automatic gearboxes.

The book is written simply, and involved technical discourses have been avoided, but its main use, other than as a reference book, will be confined to mechanics working on American vehicles and even in such cases the manufacturers' instruction manuals would he more comprehensive.

At the end of each section a list of questions has been compiled to test the reader's knowledge of the subject. and the book is 'liberally illustrated. Each topic is dealt with from first principles, which suggests that the book would be of interest to technical students and

apprentices.
