by the appellant, the Transport Tribunal in Edinburgh last week directed that an application made by Mr. A. M. Bryce, Juniper Green, Edinburgh, to the Scottish Licensing Authority should be re-heard. The Authority had rejected Mr. Bryce's case for an A licence for three vehicles with a total unladen weight of 14 tons.

Mr. J. F. P Buchanan, for Mr. Bryce, said that the vehicles would be uSed mainly to carry paper to London, Birmingham, Liverpool and Leicestershire, and grain to Wales and Lancashire.

The Woodhall Paper Company, one of hiS client's customers, had substantiallyincreased their production, which they expected soon to reach the rate of 240 tons a week. The volume of transport that they 'would require would be two or three times more than previously employed.

Mr. Buchanan told the Tribunal that the Authority had not called upon the objectors to give evidence of their facilities. He had obviously reached conclusions in his own mind which were not .in accordance with evidence submitted.

For the British Transport Commission, the respondents, Mr. A. R. Taylor, said that there had been a misconception on the part of the applicant, who should have applied for a variation of the licence conditions attachesl to some of his existing vehicles.

A ease had not been made out for the granting of three -new vehicles on A licence, he stated.
