Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

R.A.S. Threadlock for studs, Threadlock for nuts and Threadlock for screws introduced by Rocol are, it is claimed, all that is required to lock all types of threads.

Each of the three grades is in liquid form, allowing dismantling and refitting yet preventing thread loosening from vibration and seals against corrosion and leakage. Application is direct on to the threads through the applicator fitted to each pack.

Non-corrosive and resistant to oil, fuel, water and most solvents, the three Threadlock grades are produced in different colours. A red liquid, R.A.S. Threadlock for studs is capable of locking commercial studs up to 2in, diameter.

Blue in colour, R.A.S. Threadlock for nuts has an intermediate locking strength and reduces the possibility of overtightening damage. The product locks commercial fasteners up to 2in. diameter. A purple liquid, R.A.S. Threadlock for screws gives Vibration-proof locking while also allowing for adjustment. It is suitable for use with commercial screws up to lin. diameter.

A supplementary accelerator spray has been developed to speed the cure of Threadlock products where desired.

Pto safety clutch

Designed for use with pto-driven units, the Bibbigard clutch disengages drive when a preset torque is exceeded. The clutch unit fits between the flange of a cardan or universal joint shaft, and the auxiliary shaft. Resetting and torque adjustments up to a maximum 500 lb ft can, it is claimed, be made. A nut adjusts the torque against springs inside a grease-packed unit, that requires no maintenance or lubrication throughout its working life.

Dust-free sanding

Exhaust from air-operated Hutchins orbital sanders is used to draw up sanding dust through holes in the abrasive disc. The dust is sucked via a flexible pipe into a bag. A piercing tool • provided with each machine is used to punch holes in standard abrasive discs; the removal of dust from the sanding surface prevents clogging and extends abrasive life.

Aluminium labels

A self-adhesive aluminium label material has been introduced by Avery Label Systems. Known as Purma Plate IV, it consists of a rigid aluminium foil, coated with a 0,004in. protective surface and backed with a permanent adhesive. It is designed for use in metal nameplate applications and eliminates the use of riveting or solvents.

Labels can be imprinted with technical details, such as serial numbers, electrical ratings arid so on by typewriting, addressograph, computer and debossing techniques.

The material is claimed to have good weatherability and to be resistant to heat up to 200degF where stressing is involved. It can cope with higher temperatures when there is no stressing. It is available in bright or satin finishes in a variety of colours.

Labels can be applied by hand or with semi-automated equipment. They can be printed in sizes up to 114in, x Sin. using Duragraphic screen, letterpress or flexography.

In comparison with anodized aluminium nameplates, cost savings of close on 50 per cent are claimed; the larger the label, the greater is the saving. Production tests in America have shown a 40 per cent reduction in the application time on home appliances.

Tyre handler

A dual-purpose tyre handling unit of Swedish origin has been introduced to the UK by Scantact. It is known as the Columbus and is claimed to be no bigger than conventional single-operation tyre changers: it enables tyre changing, static wheel balancing and dynamic balancing to be provided by one unit.

The Columbus is designed for tube and tubeless tyres from 8in. upwards. Special adaptor flanges are provided for rims with large centre holes. Other features are a manual quick-lock grip, which secures the wheel rim, and a double-post non-tilt • pneumatic bead breaker.

Static balancing is by means of a central spirit level or — for Covered rims — a balance sleeve. Dynamic imbalance is indicated by a marking pen on the rotating balance sleeve.

Marketed by: Scantact Ltd, Greenford, Middx.
