Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Almost echoing the EGR v SCR battle of the mid-noughties, Iveco has gone counter to industry trend and unveiled the Euro-6 variant of its Cursor and Tector powerplants without EGR.

Iveco chief executive Alfredo Altavilla notes that EGR “has its place in transport, but for heavy CVs the technology that reduces fuel consumption and additional operating costs to their minimum is the correct technical choice”.

The engines, developed by Iveco’s sister firm FPT Industrial, have improved combustion efficiency, a new ECU, and use SCR only to achieve the Euro-6 emissions targets. The key to this is new after-treatment hardware that enables precise AdBlue dosing; and ammonia and NOx sensor technology for accurate exhaust gas sensing, enabling adaptive AdBlue dosing to compensate for any ageing of the SCR catalyst.

Altavilla adds pointedly: “It is clear that Euro-6 vehicles will be more expensive; technology has a price and a value. We will introduce suitably equipped vehicles when our customers ask us to do so.”
