Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Certainly activity abounds, with the SfL’s sponsorship and support of initiatives such as Logistics Leaders and Everywoman, intended to get business owners to consider the beneits of boosting the number of women in their workforce. The Industry Image working group, a loose afiliation of industry partners including the Road Haulage Association, the Freight Transport Association and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, is another example of a recent initiative designed to promote careers within the industry and change perceptions.

Vicki Davenport, sales and commercial director at Huddersield’s Pink Link, says: “Haulage irms have historically missed out by not employing more women. There are so many unknown opportunities in this sector for women.”

The last word goes to Grocott: “The most important thing for me, is to educate women and get them to understand that transport doesn’t mean dirty diesel engines, but sleek, clean and very lean working practices.” ■
