• A special strike insurance scheme has been launched to protect hauliers and other businessmen who may be victims of industrial disputes in other companies.

The policy's backer, Strike Risks Management, says it is aimed at "innocent third parties" caught up in such circumstances. These might in

dude hauliers losing crucial business because of a ferry strike, or customers missing a vital load because drivers have taken industrial action.

The scheme is backed by Lloyds and is available worldwide. It only covers businessmen affected by third-party dispute, however — not action by their own employees.
