• A haulier who spent 22,000 a month with a commercial garage having his vehicles maintained and serviced on contract, has found himself in trouble with West Midlands Deputy Licensing Authority Ronald Jackson over the condition of his trucks.
Double D Freight Services told Jackson last week that its maintenance had been carried out under contract by Edgewick Park Commercials, and when one of its vehicles had been stopped in a roadside check and given an immediate prohibition the company had been surprised and horrified. It had been even more horrified when the vehicle was produced for clearance and a further 10 defects had been found.
Carless said that Double D now employed two experienced and competent mechanics of its own, and it was hoped that there would be no repetition of the number of prohibitions that had been imposed during what was rather a fraught period.
Director John Dicey agreed that at a fleet check which followed the issue of the first prohibition, two vehicles had been given immediate prohibitions and four other vehicles delayed prohibitions.
Taking no action in view of the fact that the Double D licence expires in May 1989, Jackson warned the company that it faced a full fleet inspection before the licence would be renewed. He trusted that there would be no further prohibitions between now and May next year.
