ANTHONY CARRIMORE

Every type of trailer from heavyweight machinery carrier to the lightest trailer is manufactured by Carrimore.

Detachable goose-neck semi-trailers with payload capacities ranging from 20 to 60 tons also include a detachable rear bridge, interchangeable beds, a single-spring suspension up to 45 tons, and walking-beam suspension beyond this weight.

Tipping semi-trailers are available in steel or alloy with body lengths between 18 and 33ft and gross trailer weights between 24 and 50 tons. Single or twin-ram hoists are employed.

The car transporters can be converted to flat platform cargo-carrying trailers if required.

CAR VEYOR

Carveyor Ltd, Lichfield Road, Tamworth, Staffordshire.

Carveyor, as the name implies, manufactures a range of vehicle transporters. The 510 model has now been replaced by the model 700 which is plated at 14 or 17 tons gross trailer weight depending on tyre specification. CHARROLD

Charrold Ltd, St Peter's Road, Huntingdon, PETS 7DL.

This manufacturer's main production consists of specialist-built transporters including all-welded monocoque designs and U-formed bodies. The bulkers are conveyor discharge non-tip'ping and gray\ity discharge types.

Conventional tipping trailers with capacities up to 20-21 tons with single, tandem, or tri-axle bogies are made, and others incorporating pneumatic discharge equipment are also available in the same weight range. Units from which the discharge of granular cargoes is by gravity and on which the body is of a hopper design are produced as are similar types which are equipped with conveyor-belt discharge.

Materials used in construction include steel, aluminium, wood and composite. Rubery Owen running gear is specified.

COOK & TALBOT

Cook & Talbot Engineers Ltd, Oxford Street, Hull.

Low-loaders and purpose-built trailers for road and site work constitute the C & T range.

One example is a rear-loader, a drop-frame. semi-trailer with a manual hydraulic-operated rear door which drops down to form a ramp allowing fork-lift trucks and other plant to be driven on to the well. Maximum capacity in the well is from 6 to 18 tons, and maximum payload from 7 to 20 tons. Single, tandem and tri-axle units are fitted depending on payload capacity.

COURTBURN

Courtbarn Positioners Ltd (Specialist Trailer Division), Oakley, Bedford. Every conceivable type of semi-trailer and trailer is produced by this, the largest trailer producing group in the UK. Standard ranges include flats, skeletals, platform skeletals, TIR-type vehicles, frameless vans and, in conjunction with Boalloy CF, the Tautliner body.

A wide range of specialized trailers is also manufactured, consisting of bulk tippers and hoppers, tankers for liquid cargos, machinery carriers and transporters for loads exceeding 300 tons.

CRANE FRUEHAUF AND BODEN

Crane Fruehauf Trailers Ltd, Roden Trailers Ltd, Hayes Gate House, Uxbridge Road, Hayes, Middx.

Recent additions include three new model types: the Vanguard 747 van designed for high-volume loads; the Continental TIR for metric pallets; and a bottom discharge dump semi-trailer, The Vanguard 747 is available in body lengths up to 40ft and cubic capacities up to 3380 cu ft. Single and tandem-axle CF running gear is utilized and the maximum gross trailer weight is 23.25 tons.

The Continental TIR has been designed to accommodate two 1.2m pallets side by side within the body width. The trailer is built to operate at 32 tans gew.

The dump semi-trailer is built for limited applications such as trench filling or tarmac application. Capacity is 17., cu yd or approximately 20 tons and the vehicle operates at 32 tons gcw. The discharge gates are the clam-shell type and need to be powered open.

A wide range of running gear is also produced, suitable also for use on frameless designs such as the Vanguard.

CRAN FORD

Cranford Engineering Co, Mere Platt, Knutsford, Cheshire.

A convertible bulk trailer, a unit which may be supplied as a single or tandem-axled trailer depending on the gvw, is made by Cranford: it can be converted from a bulk carrier to a standard flat by folding the sideboards inwards over the floor. When the sides are erected, secondary floor plates form a sloping floor over one-third of the main floor width from each side.

The body also houses a conveyor belt, covered by removable floor boards which serve as stiffeners to the load-bearing sides when these are folded down. Bulk grain and other granular materials can be handled and when the sides are folded down deck height is the same as a standard trailer. Other straight frame semi-trailers are built and all are mounted on Rubery Owen running gear and suspensions.

CRAVENS HOMALLOY

Cravens Homalloy (Sheffield) Ltd, Darnall, Sheffield S94 LL.

The stepframe and flat-floor Taskvans are manufactured at the Sheffield production unit. The flat-floored van has a 7ft 11 in. standard internal width and features a steel bowed roof, which, it is claimed, gives improved strength. The step-frame van of integral construction has no wheelboxes intruding into the load area. This factor and the step-frame design allows an increased capacity of 750 cu ft over the level-floor version.
