Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

STARTING FROM August 1, vehicle registration marks will have a new reversed format, with the year suffix first. For example, A 123 ABC follows YBC 999Y.

At the same time, a new series of "Q" prefix registration marks in the same reversed format will be introduced when the age of vehicle, at first registration, is uncertain.

The "Q" prefix is a significant step in protecting the used vehicle buyer, Transport Under Secretary Lynda Chalker said. "Up to now, used vehicles registered for the first time in Great Britain have received a current year registration number," she said. "This had often led to confusion about the vehicle's age."

Where the age of a vehicle is known an appropriate mark will be issued.
