Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

by Tim Hoare

Errors in marking marred the smooth running of the Essex LDoY eliminator at Warley on Sunday when five competitors were incorrectly credited with penalty-free runs in one of the manoeuvring tests. Fortunately, the class winners were unaffected and in only two cases were the placings modified.

Three of ?he classes were won by drivers from Schweppes and it was this company that beat 23 teams to come away with the team award. One of the members of this team was Mr J. McClaren who won the overall award with a score of 50 penalty points in Class C. A disappointed second in this class was Mr K. Gopton who, until the final test was leading Mr McClaren. On the final test, however, he lost 74 points arid the class as well. Once again the Highway Code took its toll with some of the competitors losing no points while others ran into the hundreds. In Class B, for example, Mr F. A. Nicklin, who came second, incurred 100 points in this section whereas both the winner, Mr Hanrahan and third man Mr Oakley lost no points at all.

Not surprisingly Class E was dominated by NCL drivers who had all but three of the 15 entries in this category. In Class H it was the petrol giants who virtually monopolized the contest but one of the two Ford entries, driven by Mr L. C. Bliss, did well to come third.
