Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

276 FOR BIRMINGHAM, 149 FOR MIDLAND RED

ORDERS received by Transport Vehicles (Daimler) Ltd., Coventry, during the past few days include no fewer than 276 Fleetlines for Birmingham City Transport and 149 Fleetlines for Midland Red, the second and third largest single orders respectively ever received for the Daimler Fleetline. In addition 10 Fleetlines are to be supplied to Derby Corporation Transport, making, with the 30 for Nottingham announced in this journal last week, a total of 465 requests for this type of bus this month.

The Daimler Roadliner is also gaining ground, Chesterfield Corporation Transport having ordered 10 single-deckers of this type for delivery next year, whilst Huddersfield Corporation Transport has ordered 16 Daimler CVG6.30 double-deckers to be fitted with 70-seat forward-entrance bodies by East Lancashire Coachbuilders Ltd., and Derby is also taking another five CVG6 double-deckers with 65-seat Roe bodies. Chas. H. Roe Ltd. is also to build the bodies for Derby's Fleetlines. No decision has been made yet in respect of the bodies for the Birmingham Fleetlines. Of these buses, 76 are for delivery in 1966. 100 in 1967 and 100 in 1968.

MIDLAND RED PROGRAMME

The 149 Fleetlines for Midland Red form part of a replacement programme authorized by the directors of the company for 1966, 1967 and part of 1968, and their purchase follows the successful operation of 50 Fleetlines introduced some two years ago. With Fleetlines gradually being introduced by other BET companies, this latest order represents a big break by Daimler into the company bus market. The tle14 Fleetlines will probably have Alexander bodies, and be similar to those already in service. The balance of the buses will constitute 143 BMMO-built S.17 single-deck buses to follow on from those at present being produced, and 25 Leyland Leopard coaches to follow 50 of this type already authorized. It would appear from this news that the production by BMMO of double-deckers to their own design

might cease, at least for the time being. F.K. M.
