THE principle has been secured that all motor-vehicle and trailer menulecturers in this country shall be eligible to receive general licencesfor the export of spare parts for their resrtective products.

It will be quite understood that the matter of servicing is of special importance as a means for maintaining the industry's goodwill overseas.

The form of general licence now provides that such spare parts may be dispatched, "without restriction, to all British destinations, as well as to many allied and foreign countries, including the principal markets of South America.

S.M.14. AND T. AND POST-WAR RECONSTRUCTION

A NTICIPATING t h e difficulties ti which will confront tile industry after the war, the S.M.M. and T. recently formed .a Post-war Reconstruction Committee under the chairmanship of the president, Mr. H. ShankIand. The committee will arrange for any necessary co-options, whilst questions concerning -other than vehicle makers will be referred, meantime, to the appropriate sections for their views.

STANDING JOINT COMMITTEE ON POWER' AGRICULTURE

AT the request of the Ministry of Agticulture, the Agricultural Engineers' Association, in co-operation with the S.M.M. and T., has establisteed a Standing joint Committee with which the Ministry can consult on questions of the allocation of steel,. labour, rationalization of design, etc.

The S.M.M.and T. is concerned on behalf of its members interested in power farming, ie particular to its Tractor and Agricultural Machinery Section, but members of some other -sections, such as those dealing with tyres ani trailers, are also interested.

COTTON HAULAGE POOL .

DEVELOPMENT lkfiANCHESTER Cotton Road-haulliflage Pool has made contact with Cotton Importers and Distributors, Ltd., and has offered its services. Whilst C.I.D., Ltd., could not bind itself to send its traffic through one channel, it was indicated that use would probably be made of the Pool's services.

Cotton-transport rates were also discussed, but the issue was left in abeyance, in view of the report that the Minister of War Transport might issue' an order restricting haulage rates to levels not exceeding, by a certain percentage, those which prevailed in October. 1940.

• DAIMLER COMPANY LOSES A VALUED SERVANT

WITH great regret we announce the IN death of Mr. sack Foster, which took place on December 23, at Guildford, after an illness lasting some five months. He was a well-known and popular' member of the sales organization of TransportVehicles (Daimler), Lid., and had seen 35 years of service with the company.
