Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Wire rope safety barriers are to be installed on trunk roads to replace the existing corrugated-beam fences — but they will still not be strong enough to restrain HGVs, says Roads and Traffic Minister Peter Bottomley.

Wire rope safety fence design complies with the standard for safety fencing, says Bottomley. A detailed specification for use of the new design on trunk roads is being prepared.

"It's intended to introduce formally this type of fence as soon as practicable, subject to its notification to the European Commission and other member states," says Bottomley.
