Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The first new single-deck buses designed expressly for one-man operation to be operated by the North Western Road Car Co. Ltd. have now been delivered.

The buses are 15 Bristol RESL models fitted with 45-seat bodies by Marshall of Cambridge (Engineering) Ltd., and are part of an order for 40 Bristols, the first to be introduced by the company since this model became available again on the open market.

North Western is a company which regularly bought Bristols until this make was restricted to State-owned companies in 1948.

The company already operates oneman single-deckers, but these are adaptations of existing vehicles. The new vehicles will be used in the Matlock, Northwich, Manchester, Stockport, Oldham, Glossop and Macclesfield area.

Providing high standards of passenger comfort, the new Bristols have a wide front entrance/exit and low steps for greater safety. In the driver's cab the emphasis is also on road safety and comfort. All the controls are on a central panel, similar to the dashboard layout of a car.

To avoid draughts all windows are sealed and ventilation is by way of three lift-up roof vents. A Smiths 1500 heating unit is fitted to the buses with full-length ducting down each side of the body and' a Smiths F351 demister/cab heater is fitted to the driver's cab.

The seats are Deans Beta Ail type with double stainless steel top rails to the back squabs, and the seats are upholstered with Hold sworths moquette and trimmed with Vynide.

In line with standard North Western practice, manually operated Setright ticket machines are fitted to the new buses.

The buses are fitted with Gardner 6HLX engines rated at 120 b.h.p. and five-speed semi-automatic transmission. The specification includes a Bowman heat exchanger and Varivane radiator shutters.

Tubeless 10.00-22.5 radial tyres have been standardized. Overall length of the buses is 32ft Sin.
