New Bodybuilding Bustness

The new company is known as the Carter Engineering Co. (Tamworth), Ltd., Industrial Estate, Lichfield Road, Tarnworth. It will build a wide variety of special and standard bodies for the trade.

It is understood that among the new body designs to be offered next year will be a revolutionary method of steel sheet assembly making up containers and tipper bodies.

NEW SHOWROOM -CA

A NEW showroom, exclusively for B.M.C. commercial vehicles, has been opened by the Haslemere Motor Co., Ltd., Guildford. Facilities for 12 to 15 vehicles are provided. The new showroom is on the main Guildford by-pass.

Government's Plans for Railways

THE Government's plans for the railI ways and the rest of the British Transport Commission will be published in a White Paper in mid-December.

Our Parliamentary Correspondent says he understands that the proposals will be:—

Decentralization of the railways into six regions;

. Removal of the "common carrier" obligation and of statutory restrictions on fares .and charges; B.T.C. will disappear in its present form. 'It will be replaced by a Railways Board..;, drawn from chairmen and managing-directors of the Regions. Separate boards will be responsible for hotels, London Transport, road services, docks.

A Bill will be introduced into Parliament this session to make those changes that cannot be achieved by administrative action.

No move will be made by the Government to sell off the,13.T.C.'s property in land and buildings and the like. Its steps will be directed to making the best use of these assets.

MANCHESTER DOCKS SPEED-UP

'MANCHESTER LINERS, LTD., a shipping company, on Wednesday inaugurated a scheme at Manchester Docks to speed vehicle turn-round. The traffic controller of Manchester Liners will keep lorry drivers informed of latest developments and what time they can expect to get away. Whilst at the Port drivers will be invited to stay in the Manchester Ship Canal canteen.
