Lambeth Bridge Traffic Surpasses Expectations.

In vien, of references in the Press to the small amount of tra.ffiC using Lambeth Bridge, the London County Council has submitted details which show that the normal week-day traffic from

a.m. to 8 p.m. amounts to about 5,500 motor and horsed vehicles. In the evidence submitted on behalf of the council to the Royal Commission on Cross River Traffic in London, in 1920, the estimated initial traffic on the new B24 bridge was put at nearly 5,000 vehicles in 12 hours. It will, therefore. be seen that the traffic is more than up to expectations.

Moreover, an important consideration which influenced the council in deciding to build the now bridge was the necessity of providing for increased traffic. It is thought that Lambeth Bridge would be of great value in carrying the heavy load of traffic at present borne by Westminster Bridge, should it be necessary to divert traffic from the latter bridge. This position, in fact, arose on Armistice Day, owing to the abnormal traffic conditions which then prevailed.
