McCune Ireland specialises in temperature-controlled transport. warehousing and storage. It operates a total of 56 trucks and 75 fridge trailers on a mix of Continental, UK and Irish haulage. The transport side of the business is 75% groupage, mainly on behalf of food and pharmaceuticals manufacturers and distributors to FiDCs. Some deliveries are also made to stores and even restaurants. Ifs the firm's proud boast that it will deliver everything from a single pallet to a full load. "We are the people who will deliver where no one else does. If someone wants a single pallet to Dingle Bay, they call us," says managing director Ashley McCulla.

With capacity for handling 9,000 tonnes of goods at Lisburn equivalent to around 7,000 pallets McCulla has cold store chambers running at between +5 and -25°C. "We like to work with our customers over a long period of time," says Ashley McCulla, adding, as proof, that several have been using the firm's transport and warehousing facilities for as long as 25 years. The Lisburn site even houses a 'Baking Academy' on behalf of Cuisine de France, another long-term customer.

One of McCulla's customers, Dale Farm Ice Cream in Belfast, told CM that the firm's ability to offer flexibility and compliance with strict quality guidelines were major reasons for staying with it.

McCune provides both transport and cold storage for Dale, collecting ice cream from manufacturing sites on the Continent as well as the UK and delivering it to distributors across Ireland.

Dale's operations and technical manager Rory Watson says: "McCulla's temperature control is excellent We can make one call and they look after everything. They deliver to our specification which involves complying with high quality standards. We also get weekly exception reports from them. Ice cream should be delivered at no less than -18°C but our target is -20°C and McCulla can achieve that."
