Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AS a result of repsesentations by the O.M.U.A. and other national organizations, and subject to the approval of the Commissioners of Taxes, the Board of Inland Revenue has agreed that a wear-ahd-tear allowance in respect of light 32-seater singledeckers for war-time use should -be made at the rate of 25 .per tent, on their written-down value.

Taking into account the additional one-filth, prescribed by the Finance Act, 1938, the total rate of allowance will now become 30 per cent. This means that 53 per tent, of the cost will be written off in two years, and the vehicles will be brought to a residual value of 25 per cent. for just over three years, whilst the .whole cost will be written off in six years.

Repairs, renewals and replacements will continue to be allowable charges against revenue.

The increase will "apply so long as the vehicles remain licensed to carry 32 people and such standing passengers as are Permitted by the R.T.C.s.

The total number of concerns which will act as controlled Undertakings Will eventually be between 250 and 300. Already 118 agreements have been signed, and a further 150 are merely awaiting formali ties.

BIG. CONCESSION FOR FARMTRACTOR OPERATORS LICENSING conditions in respect of tractors have, hitherto, rendered it virtually impossible for farmers-or agricultural contractors legally to haul farm produce or requisites on the roads for other farmers, The conditions of the ordinary agricultural licence at the annual rate of 5s. also limited road haulage to one particular farm, or to

journeys to the station.

The Tractor User' Association hat been conducting negotiations for some time to overcome this drawback, and, as a result, a'valuabIe war-time concession has been granted, which will enable farmers to haul for their neighbours and to carry out their .own road haulage. Tractors licensed at the 5s. rate al4 ' may now be used anywhere on the rciads for hauling agricultural produce of, or articles required for, any farm or market garden, provided the tractor is registered in the name of a person engaged in agriculture, or of a registered agricultural contractor, and is used prirnarily for work on the land in conneetion with agriculture, The T.U.A, is to be congratulated on the success of its efforts in securing this important concession.
