• Eurotunnel is offering International Road Transport Union (IRLT) affiliated organisations, including the Freight Transport Association and Road Haulage Association, a 20% reduction on its 1390 Le Shuttle fare.
Following an agreement signed in Brussels on 22 September, occasional users will enjoy similar discounts to those negotiated by large operators. Eurotunnel denies that the discounts have been offered because of the number of hauliers who have deserted the Tunnel in recent months (CM 18-24 August).
Eurotunnel's freight director Christian Zbylut says the slump in traffic in August was due to a "seasonal drop in economic activity".
