a voluntary code of practice for the selfescorting of abnormal loads; it is endorsed by the Association of Chief Police Officers, the Association of Chief Police Officers Scotland, the Freight Transport Association, the Heavy Transport Association, the Road Haulage Association, the Construction Plant-hire Association and the Department for Transport.
The code covers various aspects of self-escorting and requires that markings and amber warning beacons are fitted to the vehicles that are used.
