The Basingstoke works possesses every facility for meeting the requirements of its customers in all branches of the transport industry, and with a very large timber store it is able to guarantee the use of sound and well-seasoned timber. In the case of every one of these bodies a standard has been laid down and standard dimensions are available for various wheelbases within the chassis range and, in addition, special

requirements Can always be met.

Passenger bodies, either coach or bus, are not made at Basingstoke because the freight bodies practically absorb all the facilities, but we do know that considerable study has been made of bodies that are suitable for Thornycroft chassis, sothat, the prospective purchaser, buying through his agent or through a coachbuilder, can obtain *advice from Thornycrofts as to bodywork suitable for the chassis, and can be given every other assistance in securing a vehicle entirely suitable for the work which is in mind.

With regard to freight bodies, the construction is carried out in accordance with good general practice, and all materials that are used are flier best of their respective kinds. The bearers are always of stout oak bolted to longitudinal runners of the same timber, whilst the floor framing is of selected deal with corner brackets and stays to give additional strength. The floor bearers are of deal and are fitted with iron wearing strips. The body framing, sides and tailboard. are either of ash or oak.

When a van is provided with a solid top, Sundeala is nsed, the upper portion being close-boarded with deal. The roof is of well-seasoned matching supported on bent ash hpopsticks; the roof and body sides down to the waist moulding are covered with good-quality canvas. When a body is fitted with a tilt, a strong canvas sheeting of well-proofed material is employed supported on bent ash hoopsticks which are made easily detachable.

In the case of a brewer's body, three detachable, handforged, steel stanchions are fitted on each side with strong steel chains, also easily removable. .

Tipping bodies are supplied with hand-operated gears for loads up to 4 tons, and with mechanically operated gears for loads of from 3 to 6 tons, according to the wishes of the customer.

The cab gives comfortable seating and ample protection to the driver and is 15 every sense a thoroughly practical job. One of the chassis is particularly suitable for forward control. The cab for control of this type is not provided with doors ; two quickly detachable seats are fitted, one on each side of the engine. Cabs are also provided to meet the requirements of the War Office, and also for use in tropical climates, the latter having large hoods of khaki twill. It is almost needless to say that painting and finish are carried out on the very best lines.
